If you’ve ever dreamed of timeless, romantic wedding portraits but don’t want to worry about weather, harsh sunlight, or freezing temperatures, an indoor studio session might be the perfect solution.
This bridal and wedding portrait session took place at Neutral Moon Studio, a stunning natural light studio located in Midtown Atlanta—right near the World of Coca-Cola and the Georgia Aquarium. It’s one of my favorite studio spaces in the city for couples who want a clean, elevated, and light-filled look for their photos.
With soft white walls, beautiful windows, and incredible natural light, Neutral Moon Studio creates the perfect environment for studio wedding portraits, bridal portraits, and indoor couple sessions that feel effortless and elegant.
Kyle first reached out to me last fall to book their wedding, and from the very beginning, everything about their vision felt thoughtful and intentional. After getting their wedding date secured, we also planned their engagement session in November at the Georgia State Capitol. From that session alone, I could already tell how much I was going to enjoy working with them.
During their engagement session, I mentioned that I would be sending over their wedding questionnaire in the weeks leading up to the holidays. Kyle shared that they were still figuring out what they wanted their wedding to look like. They were considering downsizing and changing a few things, and they were not fully sure what direction they wanted to go.
I told them that was no problem at all. I would still send the questionnaire, and they could use it as a guide to help them think through what moments mattered most to them and how they wanted their day documented. Sometimes having that structure actually makes the decision process easier.
Their engagement session was such a joy to photograph. They were full of energy, completely comfortable with each other, and clearly had years of connection behind them. We laughed the entire session. It felt effortless. Sessions like that always remind me why I love what I do!
In early January, Kyle reached back out and shared that they had decided to get married at the courthouse. This is such a wonderful option, especially if you are feeling unsure or overwhelmed in the wedding planning process. It allows you to focus on what matters most without the pressure of a large event.
They were interested in doing wedding portraits after the courthouse ceremony and wanted them to still feel special and elevated.
Their wedding date was January 31st, and this winter in Georgia has been unusually cold. When we started planning their portraits, it was clear that being outside would not be comfortable. So we began looking at studio options, and after reviewing a few spaces, we chose Neutral Moon Studio.
Studios are a great option for wedding portraits for so many reasons, but one of the biggest benefits is control.
There is no wind.
No rain.
No extreme cold.
No worrying about changing light.
The day of their session, it was actually snowing and about 20 degrees outside. If we had tried to do portraits outdoors, everyone would have been miserable. Instead, we had a warm, comfortable, calm space to work in.
Studios also offer:
For couples getting married in the winter, planning a courthouse ceremony, or wanting a backup option for unpredictable weather, studio wedding portraits are such a smart and stress free choice.
We met at the studio right after Kyle and her partner went to the courthouse. Because of that, emotions were still very fresh. Kyle shared that she did not expect to cry as much as she did during the ceremony, which was so sweet.
Before we started portraits, she touched up her makeup while her family gathered nearby. It was really special to have that quiet time together before jumping into photos. Moments like that often become some of my favorites, even if they are not directly photographed.
Neutral Moon Studio is such a beautiful space. It has clean white walls and a stunning wall of windows that fills the room with natural light. We arrived around 1:30 PM on an overcast, snowy afternoon, which actually gave us the softest and most consistent lighting.
Even with the clouds and snow outside, the light inside was bright, flattering, and perfect for timeless wedding portraits.
We had Neutral Moon Studio booked for two hours, which gave us plenty of time to move through everything without feeling rushed.
During the first 15 to 20 minutes, everyone took time to touch up their makeup and make sure they were feeling their absolute best before we started. We began with family photos, which was really easy to do in this space.
The studio is large enough to comfortably fit about 10 to 15 people across the main wall, and we had a group of six total, so there was more than enough room for what we needed. Once family photos were finished, everyone headed off to the reception, and I stayed behind with Connor and Kyle for the rest of the session.
From there, we spent about an hour focusing on their wedding portraits.
Because we were in a studio setting, the photos leaned more editorial and classic rather than movement-based like you might get in a big outdoor space. Kyle was wearing a sleek, narrow dress and a soft faux fur shawl, which fit this style perfectly and helped us lean into more polished posing.
They also brought along the cutest sunglasses, which we used for a few fun shots and added a playful touch to the session.
We made great use of the space by rotating between:
Even with simple elements like white walls and natural wood floors, you can get so much variety in a studio. The space gives you a blank canvas to work with, which makes it easy to create images that feel elevated and intentional.
The entire session felt relaxed and fun. Just like during their engagement session in November, it felt like we had been friends for years. We laughed the whole time, and it never felt stiff or overly posed. Those are always my favorite sessions.
One of the things I loved most about this session was the pace.
Wedding days can be busy and emotional and sometimes a little stressful. The fact that Connor and Kyle blocked out two full hours on their wedding day just for portraits created such a peaceful moment in the middle of everything.
We were not rushing.
We were not watching the clock.
We were not stressed about timelines.
We were simply present, enjoying the moment, and celebrating their marriage. That is always my goal for my couples.
Every wedding day looks different, and you can absolutely get beautiful portraits even if you only have 15 minutes at a venue. But if you are feeling anxious about timing or want more space to breathe, a studio session is a wonderful option.
Even couples having traditional weddings can choose to come back later, put their dress and suit back on, and do additional portraits in a slower, more relaxed setting.
One of the best things about studio portraits is that you can truly do them at any time of year.
They are especially great for:
Because studios are a controlled environment, there is no “bad” season for this type of session.
Another huge benefit is flexibility. If you are torn between different styles, a studio gives you the freedom to explore all of them. You can show up in full black-tie attire, then switch into something more casual like jeans and a white t-shirt, and both will still make sense in the space.
The neutral backdrop allows your outfits, personalities, and connection to take center stage.
My biggest tip is to give yourself enough time.
If you have multiple looks in mind or want a relaxed experience, I highly recommend booking at least two hours instead of trying to squeeze everything into a short session. The extra time makes a huge difference in how calm and enjoyable the experience feels.
If studio wedding portraits or bridal portraits sound like something that fits your vision, I would absolutely love to work with you.
Neutral Moon Studio is one of my favorite spaces in Atlanta, but there are also many other studios in the area that offer different styles and aesthetics. Whether you want something bright and airy, modern and moody, or classic and minimal, there is a space that fits your vision.
This is also a beautiful option for:
If you are interested in creating timeless, relaxed, and meaningful studio portraits, I would love to help you plan the perfect session.
